Conclusion

...a relatively simple base unit that sets out to offer full-HD gaming competence in an affordable package.

The Vibox Defcon 2 is a modest yet accurate depiction of where the GTX 960 should be positioned. Allied to an Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of memory in a £630 base unit, this is a relatively simple base unit that sets out to offer full-HD gaming competence in an affordable package.

Vibox has achieved its primary goal, but there is room for improvement in other areas. The company has already committed to a chassis fan revision that should make the entire PC practically inaudible, and for the extra injection of speed, we'd be inclined to swap the 1TB hard disk for a price-comparable solid-state hybrid drive.

Bottom line: looking to take your first steps into the world of PC gaming? At £630, Defcon 2 is a reasonable option.

Perhaps the minimum power state was set to 100% in Windows, apparently that can keep the CPU running at full speed.
Thanks Parm for taking the time to review our latest gaming system and recognizing our thought process in how best to balance a system around the GTX 960. As you state, our primary objective was to offer the best value for money entry-mid level gaming PC around the £600-650 price mark which is why we have sacrificed things like the SSD etc.

For those wanting greater CPU speed and overclocking capability, we have the upgraded DEFCON 1 at £669.99 and for those who can't quite stretch to the price of the DEFCON 2, we have the DEFCON 3 for a more affordable £599.99. We also have a new series called ‘WILDFIRE’ due for launch in April which will offer a more premium feel to the component selection and will be around the £800-£900 mark. We of course also have a customiser tool in which you can completely design your perfect PC with no restrictions. Please visit our website for more info on all.

Also, one final thing to mention is that we are running a free competition to win a DEFCON 2 in celebration of it's launch! The entry window closes on the 31st March and you can find more info on how to enter by visiting our Facebook page.

Thanks again!

Tell me they're not using a FSP Raider PSU in that system?
Ugly looking case. As it is Corsair surely a nice touch would be a Corsair psu which is likely to be avaialable for a similar price to an FSP.
Is the OS installation disk supplied?
In person it looks a lot nicer with the lighting kit etc. In this system our MO was to offer the best value for money and in doing so we have had to compromise slightly on aesthetics. Our soon to be released Wildfire Series begins with a similar component base but has generally more premium component offerings housed within the NZXT H440. This may be more in line with your preference.

Finally, yes the OS disk is supplied in case you want to fresh install in future.
