The MESH Titan X1800 Fire system is, clearly, designed for the hardcore gamer whose primary concern is high-resolution gaming with framerate to spare. To that end, MESH has opted to use ATI's CrossFire system as a base, thus equipping the review system with a capable ASUS CrossFire motherboard and two Radeon X1800 XT 512MB cards that are pre-configured in full-blown CrossFire mode. Adding in more performance punch is an AMD Athlon 64 4600+ dual-core CPU that's only found wanting in very few circumstances. It's clear that MESH has designed this system to for a specific price point, yet we would probably choose an Athlon 64 X2 4800+ as the base CPU. Its £88 premium would be more than compenstated for the extra gaming performance afforded by double the '4600's L2 cache.

MESH also bundles in a decent 20.1" TFT from Philips that goes against the black-coloured theme favoured by the London-based company. It produces a bright, even display and its native 1600x1200 resolution is what we'd expect users to play their games at. Our benchmarks have shown the CrossFire cards are more than capable of rendering most modern games at the UXGA setting, indeed a higher resolution might not gone amiss. A single 300GB hard drive does the storage honours and a couple of drives from Sony take care of optical needs. Further good is to be found with Creative's X-Fi soundcard and Inspire 7900 speaker package, making this machine more than just a gaming titan (pun intended).

If we're being critical, a multicard reader, induction fan, and slightly better cable management would be preferable. However, taking into account the gaming performance on offer and the £1999.99 asking price for a system whose components cost at least that much if purchased from online vendors, MESH's Titan X1800 Fire can be recommended to the select bunch of purchasers looking for superlative gaming performance from a machine that does it all, practically.

The quality of integrated systems continues to rise, and MESH's effort is a fine choice for the well-heeled consumer looking for some of the finest gaming action this side of £2000. The choice you'll have to make is whether to run with ATI or NVIDIA for your multi-GPU framerate fun. If it's ATI, the Titan X1800 deserves some serious attention. In summary, then, a decent showcase of ATI CrossFire power in a well-rounded package. The only aspect that stops us from giving it the editor's choice award for gaming is the imminent introduction of ATI and NVIDIA's top-end SKU refresh.

HEXUS Right2Reply - MESH Computers

Commenting under the World Leading HEXUS Right2Reply initiative, Nick Walter from MESH Computers had this to say about our article:

"MESH appreciates the opportunity to add to your comprehensive review of the MESH Crossfire based system.

ATI appears now to be back on course with a serious dual-VGA alternative to SLI. The benchmarks do indeed look impressive and would give any non-ATI alternative a run for its money at this price point.

Ideally, MESH would have supplied the original submitted system with a FX60 CPU, and whilst this would have appealed to a great many, the attainment of such a system might have started to seem a fantasy - not fact, something we never want to encourage. We don't want admirers from afar; we want them to get up close and personal. To see, feel, experience and buy our PCs.

Our first principal at MESH is affordable innovation. That is to say that customers should be able to purchase new technology as soon as it comes to market, without having to pay a premium or indeed too large an amount.

Yes £2k is not an inconsiderable amount, but for those seeking the "superlative gaming performance" this is as good as you will get for this amount of money, without question. Also consider we're not just selling a PC here.... We're also providing a comprehensive on site service with a lifetime telephone support included.

The MESH Titan X1800 Fire is a well-rounded PC - thank goodness you don't have to just take our word on it - without any corners being cut. All components are fully evaluated and tested prior to consideration in the final build, ensuring all parts are fully complimentary and the sum is able to surpass its parts. Yes the CPU could have been faster and we could have included additional features, but we had one objective in mind - to provide break-neck performance to a price point, and we appreciate HEXUS' acknowledgement of our endeavours.

If you want to see and configure this system for yourself, click here and fine-tune yours.

Thanks HEXUS for a very positive validation of our efforts."

i stopped reading the review after 2nd page. Can anyone explain why the systems are benchmarked using old drivers?

…but as you've (almost) asked… the reason HEXUS tested with ATi CATALYST 5.12, as opposed to 5.13, is because that was the prevailing device driver release when we undertook our testing.

hope this all helps…

cheers,

i understand the effort you guys do to review things and your reviews are always good to read, i like the casual humor while keep things honest and precises it makes things easier to read. But as i always build my pc's i dont pay much attention to ready made pc's and the only reason why wanted to read this review is to see a Crossfire benchmark that just might be done on latest drivers. Plus maybe get a chance to see an Image Quality comparison something that no review i seen so far on latest crossfire has been done.

Also when i said to appreciate things i meant it. And i do thats why i try to be honest about things and not just say “yea thats good well done”. You are one of the only UK review sites i have ever seen which is one of the reason why i joined this community. But the fact is i would like to see a crossfire review done on latest drivers plus an IQ test. Becouse i have so far read about 6 reviews on crossfire(one of them was yours) and i think i know everything i need to know except the two things i just mentioned.

I dont care much about fps when it goes above 60 which is why i dont buy THE hardware, even though i will be buying X1800XT i will probably have money for it after X1900XT is released, but so far i play just Battlefield 2 and NFS: Most Wanted i dont need to pay even more so that i will be able to play those games at more then 100fps, i dont need that 60fps will do me just fine.

Also one of the biggest bennefits of SLI and Corssfire was the ability to increase image quality which everyone seems to be ignoring, i dont understand why when last years review always had an IQ tests.

Thanks :)
Agreed . I really like the way Bit-Tech are testing nowadays . They stated that they look for “real life” performance and quality and they never test anything until its fully mature and ready for the consumer :)
perhaps you'll find that some publications have proven themselves to be rather less authoritative, and less trusted, than others… and there may be ‘practical’ issues behind certain publications not generating editorial on cutting-edge kit, which could include such titles not being seeded early and/or not processing editorial until other publications have done so…

:)

cheers,
