Conclusion

...it's on the software side that the N5810Pro falls short, as ThecusOS isn't able to compete with what's on offer from rival manufacturers.

Thecus has proven time and time again that it has the wherewithal to put together solid NAS hardware with innovative features that serve as genuine value-adds.

With the N5810Pro, the integration of a built-in mini UPS battery gives small businesses that extra piece of mind by protecting against the risk of data loss in the event of a power outage.

Well put together and outfitted with a quad-core Intel processor and 4GB of memory, the NAS is able to deliver capable performance in various usage scenarios, and has the makings of a solid all-round storage server. However, it's on the software side that the N5810Pro falls short, as ThecusOS isn't able to compete with what's on offer from rival manufacturers. A shame, really, as the hardware is well-thought-out, yet you're left wishing it was paired to Synology's DiskStation Manager or Qnap's QTS.

Bottom line: the addition of a built-in UPS is a novel idea, but we suspect a major software update or a significant price cut will be needed in order to make the N5810Pro stand out in the face of stiff competition.

The Good

The Bad
Built-in UPS
Quad-core Intel CPU
Capable all-round performance

Software looks and feels dated
Drive bays not tool-free

Nice review! If the price gets little lesser, N5810Pro is the clear winner in the category .
I was thinking buyin' one of those chinese nas cases and a mini itx N3150.
But how long does the mini UPS last?
It should last around 20 minutes it may depend on how many HDD's are involved in the operation.
Instead of adding more features and keeping the price higher, make them more affordable so they appeal to a wider range of users.
