At the time of writing, it was possible to purchase a 2GiB pack of value DDR2-667 RAM for just £40. Purchasing faster RAM incurs a price premium, clearly, and going up to the stratospheric heights of DDR2-1100+ - where modules require large increases in operating voltage and efficient thermal transfer - requires an outlay of around £150.

That is roughly the price that Patriot's resellers are pitching its PC-9200 modules at in the UK. Performance is consistent with other high-speed sets and overclocking results, especially with respect to low latencies, is excellent.

Using high-quality memory is a sure-fire method of obtaining the most performance out of your system, and the native speed and timings of the Patriot PDC22G9200ELK 2GiB pack ensures that you will have oodles of spare dual-channel bandwidth no matter how high you clock your CPU's FSB/HT.

Trouble is, Kingston offers more speed and a slightly better warranty and we'd opt for it over the Patriot pack. The previously-reviewed OCZ Reaper PC2-9200 weighs in at much the same money but looks cooler. The competition, then, is fierce.

Bottom line: quality modules at a reasonable price that are backed up by a good warranty process. One for the enthusiasts to put on their shortlist.
