Conclusion

The two new SFX supplies, 450W and 600W, offer best-in-class performance that rivals that of a decent ATX supply.

Corsair has understood that smaller form factor PCs represents a growth area that, until now, has been largely overlooked.

It took longer than expected for Corsair to appreciate the benefits of smaller cases and power supplies, but finally, it has more than competent products in both areas.

The two new SFX supplies, 450W and 600W, offer best-in-class performance that rivals that of a decent ATX supply. Corsair does more with less here, helped by solid engineering by OEM-maker Great Wall.

Priced at £95, the real decision you have to make is whether going truly small, thereby leveraging the benefits of an SFX power supply, makes sense for your next performance build. If it does, we see no reason why the Corsair SF600 should be overlooked. Recommend for its target market.

The Good

The Bad
Seven-year warranty
Competitive price
Excellent performance
Ideal for a smaller build

SFX remains a niche market

Rather than meaning compromises, I like using SFX PSUs in any space constrained build with an ATX adapter plate (Silverstone PSUs have one in the box) as it opens up lots of space for airflow or bigger coolers.

Yep,I used the SF450 in my system rebuild:

It really helped with airflow and the PSU has really nice acoustic characteristics.

Having said that, the biggest negative is the lack of an adaptor plate, which is not that easy to find in the UK and pushes the price up by £5 to £10.

That might drive me back to Silverstone for my next purchase then. My wife's PC is showing thermal problems, and the SFX conversion on my daughter's PC allowed a far bigger CPU fan which made the machine just so much quieter.

Scan is about the only company to sell them and actually have stock.

Which is where my Silverstone PSUs came from :)
