Final thoughts

The GeForce GT 240 is one of the latest GPUs to be released by NVIDIA. Fabricated on the advanced 40nm process and imbued with DX10.1 compliance, along with a more-robust multimedia feature-set than seen before, it can be considered a competent GPU at the £50-£75 price point.

Inno3D has taken the top-level implementation that features GDDR5 memory and run with it on the XStriker 3 model. Shipping pre-overclocked out of the box, the card uses a dual-slot-taking cooler that's been around since the GeForce 8600 GTS days.

Cooling performance is understandably good, keeping the GPU well below 50°C under full yoke, but Inno3D needs to ensure that future models are thermostatically controlled; the sample isn't. The upshot is that the card could well be made quieter when the GPU throttles down in 2D mode.

Performance is a little better than a stock GT 240 and it generally matches that of a £50 Radeon HD 4670 in our benchmark suite, making it suitable for playing games using medium-detail quality at 1,280x1,024 and 1,680x1,050 resolutions.

The Inno3D GeForce GT 240 XStriker 3 iChiLL 512MB will set you back some £74, including VAT. For that kind of outlay it represents middling value. Knock £10 off and it becomes decent, if you can cope with the slightly noisy cooler. Want silence? Inno3D can provide with the fanless model.

I feel it's worth mentioning that while the full whack 5670 with displayport and crossfire fingers is £90, Sapphire do a technologically identical card without those features - which should have identical gaming performance - for ~ £73. So if crossfire and eyefinity are not of interest, there is a cheaper alternative, which probably provides better bang for buck than, say, a GTS250 @ £95.

Anywho, why no bang-for-buck assessment on this review? That's kind of important for those of us shopping in the < £100 price bracket, you know… ;)
yep need bang for buck
Yup, thanks, the B2B is being overhauled at the moment and will be added to this review once complete. It will take non-3D factors into account, as well.

Sounds interesting, I look forward to seeing the results. :)
