--- Thermal Performance, Conclusion and Certification

Thermal Performance

We were pleasantly surprised by the V1's idle readings. The CPU posted a nice and cool 42 degrees to earn joint third.

Under load, though, the V1 seemed to struggle. Okay, the fan was set at medium speed throughout but we'd expected better. With a peak CPU temperature of 62 degrees, the V1 fell down through the rankings to finish in joint 16th place.

Conclusion

Thermaltake's V1 is an odd sort of a cooler. With a winged design and sandwiched blue LED fan, it's a great talking-point for geeks. Unfortunately, performance remains okay only at the lower end of the load levels. It's pretty quiet, even at medium speed, but performance suffers when extreme number-crunching gets under way.

The simple mounting system coupled with the excellent packaging and manual do make this a good package overall. But the price isn't worth paying if what you need is something that can really shift the heat.
