OCZ Vindicator - Introduction and Packaging

Introduction

The Vindicator was OCZ's first venture into CPU cooling. As we reported from CeBIT, it will be joined in the next few months by two other coolers - the Vindicator 2 and the HydroJet - confirming the firm's aggressive entry into the high-end enthusiast market.

For now, though, the Vindicator is the only OCZ cooler available in sample form, so let's see how the company's first entry fares in this crowded market place.

Packaging

The packaging on the Vindicator is some of the slickest we've seen in a long time. A screen-printed clear plastic shell lets you see the product and also carries plenty of 'cool' images references, such as ice.

Trouble is, there's a lot more look than substance to the Vindicator's packaging. Our sample arrived with bent fins top and bottom and we noticed the same was true of the boxed product on show at CeBIT.

After a little bit of fin-bending, though, the cooler seemed okay to go into action. We noted that the fan comes pre-attached, so were expecting that to make it quicker and easier to get the cooler in place and running.
