Thermal Performance

Thermally, the Eclipse did less well than we expected. Temperature on the CPU was fairly high at idle and, unfortunately for the Eclipse, they only went one way under load.

The 63 degrees we recorded under load isn't impressive but is still a good way off the worst seen in this test. However, the motherboard temperature was one of the highest. Clearly, the plastic shroud wasn't helping to move air on our test rig the way that theory said it would do.

Conclusion

The Eclipse from Cooler Master showed so much promise, with a funky and intriguing design and a low-noise horizontal fan flow. Unfortunately it simply failed to remove enough of the heat around the core to produce winning results.

As a package, though, the Eclipse may still have considerable appeal to the enthusiast buyer. You can get better thermal performers but if you're after something that looks different and eye-catching in a windowed case, the Eclipse may just be it.
