Final thoughts and rating

Targeting the enthusiast user, Corsair's H70 lives up to its billing of class-leading performance.

Priced at £77, the H70 is a significant step up from last year's H50 and offers an increase in performance that will appeal to an overclocking audience wanting to push the latest AMD or Intel CPUs to the brink and beyond.

But performance alone isn't enough to warrant an out-an-out victory. Despite being easy to use and easy to install, rival air coolers offer marginally less performance at a lower cost, and Corsair's bundled fans can detract from the H70 experience by becoming unwelcomely loud at full speed.

However, whilst a thicker radiator, an impressively-small pump and an extra fan are obvious enhancements to a winning formula, the end result is indisputable; the Hydro Series H70 is the best-performing CPU cooler we've ever tested.

If lower temperatures are what matters most, the Hydro Series H70 is certainly worthy of consideration.

The Good

Excellent cooling performance
Easy installation
Low-profile and light-weight pump

The Bad

Expensive
Noisy at full speed

That's gotta chuck a ton of heat into your case, then again the old one did so I guess that's a moot point. 3-5C better than the stock cooler though?..
Whats with the H50 losing out to stock when overclocked? I'd say that anything short or ‘proper’ WC isn't worth it.
H50 is worth it for my build. I got it for £55 and it's great, using it as an exhaust and it keeps my CPU cool and quiet.
“12 cores”

Really ? :p

980x stock cooler is quite different from the standard i7 range and previous coolers, atleast in terms of cooling power though the review points out it's still pretty noisy. Tempted by the H70 as I currently have a bad stock cooler on my recently bought system but the price is a little offputting especially as my case is a Silverstone Fortress 02 and I would not want to use the fan the recommended way and have it intake air.
335w on the cpu at the first overclocked speed?

wow, what did the second overclocked speed get when it came to power consumption
