Saltwater fish and keen Snatch enthusiast Rahul Sood flogs Voodoo PC to Hewlett-Packard
Confirming our HEXUS.bean, Rahul Sood, outspoken HEXUS columnist and founder, President & CTO of luxury and gaming PC manufacturer Voodoo PC, has updated his personal blog, and details that he and his brother Ravi have reached an agreement with Hewlett-Packard to sell Voodoo Computers, Inc.
Canadian based Voodoo PC is arguably the most extreme mass production PC company still in business, and HEXUS has always found Rahul a straight-shooting and easy guy to work with; along with UK based ARMARI’s Dan Goldsmith, Rahul is the only other specialist system integrator our Paul Dutton has ever gone on the record and expressed high respect for.
We congratulate Rahul and Ravi on cutting this deal and hope that they’ll be allowed to bring to the table just the kind of sauce that HP needs to spice up its menu.
In context, we’re not yet sure what DELL Computers fairly recent acquisition of Alienware has brought to the company and the enthusiast market, but if HEXUS’ recent technical editorial evaluation of the Alienware Area-51 7500 PC is anything to go by, then it’s not yet much …
HEXUS’ honest article concluded that “if you've £3,000 burning a hole in your pocket and want a high-performance PC, there are better and cheaper alternatives to the Alienware Area-51 7500. Now if the price was to drop to, say, £2112…” (more on this and the shocking response from Alienware’s Mat Bettinson to HEXUS shortly…)
HEXUS looks forward to reporting on the first fruits of the HP – Voodoo PC deal in the near future and whether the buying power and infrastructure of a big corporation will make Voodoo’s magic more potent, more accessible and more affordable to a wider audience.
update – HP have now issued a press release relating to this transaction and formation of “a separate business unit within its Personal Systems Group focused on the gaming industry.”
Apparently “VoodooPC co-owner Rahul Sood will become chief technologist for the unit and co-owner Ravi Sood will become the unit’s director of strategy.”
