AMD's Dragon platform - consisting of an AMD Phenom II processor, Radeon HD 4000-series graphics card and 790GX chipset - promises to deliver an unbeatable experience for the money and hopes to eat into Intel's Core 2 Quad market share.

Having already managed to get the likes of Dell onboard, America's iBUYPOWER is following suit with a pair of high-end AMD Dragon-based systems that start at just $999. That's less than half the entry price of its admittedly quicker Intel Core i7-based systems.

The systems, dubbed Gamer HAF 91B (below, right) and Gamer Fire (below, left) are aimed at the casual gamers hoping to pick up a high-end system without breaking the bank.

iBUYPOWER's Gamer HAF 91B features AMD's Phenom II X4 920 processor, 790GX chipset and Radeon HD 4850 512MB graphics card. Rounding it off is 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 500GB hard-dish drive, a 550W power supply and Cooler Master's HAF 932 chassis. Not a bad specification by any means, and prices start at $999.

The Gamer Fire - which, unusually features blue illumination as opposed to fiery-red - raises the bar with a AMD Phenom II X4 940, 790GX chipset and a dual-GPU Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB graphics card. Completing this one is 4GB of DDR2 memory, an 800W power supply, a Blu-ray drive, NZXT's Guardian 921 chassis and liquid cooling, too. Prices start at $1,439.

Not a bad duo at all, sadly, iBUYPOWER currently only ships its systems to the US and Canada.

Remember when £1 = $2? That second spec for ~ £770 would have been a cracking deal just 6 months ago…
