BFG has been teasing its first-ever complete desktop system in the build up to CES 2009, and has now decided to unveil the machine a few days prior to Vegas' giant electronics show.

The system, dubbed Phobos, is touted as a "high performance gaming/home theatre system" and in-keeping with BFG's enthusiast components, it packs enough high-end kit to have the hardened gamer frothing at the mouth.

On the front face of Phobos' sleek-black chassis sits an 8in touch-screen LCD panel that provides access to processor, memory, network and storage data. For those who fancy a little tweak here or there, the system's performance can be configured to Auto, Quiet or Max at the touch of a finger.

Aesthetics aside, Phobos' interior components pack quite the wallop. The high-end Phobos Elite is armed with Intel's 3.2GHz Core i7 965 Extreme Edition processor, 3GB of DDR3 memory, MSI's Eclipse motherboard, four 300GB VelociRaptor hard drives, liquid cooling from CoolIT Systems and BFG's own take on NVIDIA's yet-to-be-launched GeForce GTX 295 graphics card.

On top of all that, there's an extra yet-to-be-launched BFG GeForce GTX 285 for dedicated PhysX processing, a 1,200W power supply, 7.1 audio and a slot-loading Blu-ray drive. Wrapping it all up nicely is a so-called "Concierge Service" that includes in-home installation and a follow up visit to ensure everything is in working order.

As you've probably guessed, this kind of high-end kit and high-class service will set you back at least $8,000. For the lesser mortals, the Phobos Performance and Phobos Advanced can be had from $3,000 and $5,000, respectively, but their specifications remain unknown.

Further details are expected at CES on Thursday, and the teaser site - BFGsystems.com - should soon reveal all.

"the system's performance can be configured to Auto, Quiet or Mac at the touch of a finger"

Typo for Max or does this suggest some pystar-esque business on BFG's part (most likely not the latter)
