Thecus has moved to expand the multimedia credentials of its NAS products with the introduction of a TwonkyMedia Server module.

Now available from the Thecus Download Centre, the module adds TwonkyMedia Server functionality to Thecus's N5500, N7700 and N8800 series products.

Designed to enhance the multimedia streaming capabilities of Thecus NAS solutions, TwonkyMedia Server will allow users to stream "virtually all types of videos, photos and music" to most DLNA-certified devices - that includes most games consoles, photo frames, TVs and mobile devices.

We've yet to try Thecus's implementation, and it's a little unclear exactly how many TwonkyMedia features are incorporated into the module, but the Taiwanese manufacturer tells us its TwonkyMedia Server interface is "very intuitive", adding that it takes "only a few simple setup steps" in order to get up and running.

Worth a try, we reckon, and if you do put it through its paces, be sure to let us know how you get on in the HEXUS.community forums.

I think i'll be the first to say: took them long enough!

Over a year since that thread was started.
That's quite funny. The supposedly DLNA-compliant server built into my N1200 is dreadful, so buggy it's unusable, so for a couple of years now I've been using a user-created Twonky module. Glad to see Thecus have finally caught up with something an unpaid user managed to knock together years ago in their spare time.
