Enjoying the speed of one of Intel's recently-launched 34nm SSDs? We've good news, as your already-potent drive is now likely to get a whole lot quicker courtesy of a couple of new Intel-provided tools.

With Microsoft's Windows 7 now out in the open, Intel has served up support for the operating system's TRIM command with the introduction of new firmware and an SSD Optimiser app.

Intel reckons the firmware update will deliver up to a 40 per cent increase in sequential write speeds on its 34nm X25-M 160GB drive, and what's useful is that Intel's SSD Optimiser will provide TRIM-like functionality on Windows XP and Windows Vista, too.

Itching to give it a go? The firmware upgrade can be found at www.intel.com/go/ssdfirmware and the Intel SSD Optimiser is over at www.intel.com/go/ssdtoolbox. Already running Intel's latest firmware? Let us know how you're getting on in the HEXUS.community forums.

Does anyone know if TRIM is supported for RAID0 or RAID1 arrays of these SSDs in Windows 7? I seem to remember reading somewhere that you couldn't use TRIM for RAID arrays with the current drivers/firmware…

I would guess that it depends on wether your raid controller is TRIM aware.

How about the ICH10R s/b on an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2?
AFAIK, TRIM does not work on Intel SSDs in RAID at all. Furthermore, you have to use the Windows drivers for the drive as well to use it. That said, Intel are working on revisions to their storage matrix software that will enable it on a number of chipsets in the near future.

If you went down the indilinx SSD route, I think those SSDs do support TRIM in RAID on some chipsets already.
Well I got home this evening and decided to give the update a go, only the firmware doesnt seem to be available on the site anymore!

Also it seems that some peoeple are having problems with their drives dying after the update is installed, doesnt sound so good. Perhaps this is why I cannot get hold of the firmware!
