Thecus has announced today the availability of a new interface for a selection of its NAS products.

Built on the AJAX framework, the interface aims to offer "an interactive and dynamic window between a Thecus NAS and its users".

Thecus reckons its new design is easy-to-use, user friendly, and ultimately more accessible to everyday users. It's worth noting, also, that rival NAS manufacturer QNAP introduced an AJAX-based interface for its own products back in February.

Despite a longer wait for Thecus' "next-generation user interface", the AJAX-based functionality is currently only available on the N5500, N7700SAS and N8800SAS products. Thecus expects other NAS models to be upgraded via firmware updates at a later date.

Readers with four minutes to spare can check out the new interface in the following Thecus-provided video demonstration:

This is good, if a little late. I've thought the Thecus user interface was overly clunky for a couple of years now.
Ā£50 says it uses Ext JS.
They will be bringing it to other models too - woot!
Impressive. Makes the readynas interface appear dated in comparison.
