A-DATA has announced a new series of solid-state drives that, on paper, have the performance credentials to go head-to-head with the likes of Intel.

According to the Taiwanese manufacturer, its 2.5in SATAII SSD 300 Plus series, pictured right, features a new controller design and 64MBs of SDRAM that acts as a cache buffer for frequently used data.

The result, it claims, are read and write speeds of 250MB/s and 160MB/s, respectively. Should those figures translate to real-world usage, this could be one of the single quickest solid-state drives around.

The 2.5in SATAII SSD 300 Plus will be available in capacities of 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, but pricing is yet to be announced.

Is the Hexus review team planning on doing a head to head with all these new SSDs on the market, akin to the graphics card reviews? It would be very helpful to see, and a bang 4 buck per GB could make for some interesting reading.
New controller and 64MB cache?

smells like Vertex-clone to me
