Intel has long touted the performance of its solid-state drives (SSDs), and we've now got a sneak peek at what we can expect.
According to the following leaked slide from Expreview, Intel is preparing a pair of consumer-orientated drives with sustained read and write speeds of 240MB/s and 70MB/s, respectively.
The consumer drives, the 1.8in X18-M and 2.5in X25-M, are expected to launch with an 80GB capacity in Q3. A 160GB X25-M is said to be on course for Q4, and a 160GB X18-M will follow in Q1 2009. In addition to the quick read and write speeds, consumers can look forward to low 0.06W of power usage when idle, and just 2.4W when active.
On the enterprise front, Intel's X25-E offers a blazing write speed of 170MB/s. It'll be available in 32GB and 64GB capacities, and is believed to scheduled for a Q4 release.
Micron, Intel's flash-memory partner, recently announced that its own large-capacity SSDs would enter mass production later this year. Intel's arrival on the market, however, is likely to be the catalyst that'll see the SSD market bloom.
