Last month, we informed readers that Microsoft would be dropping desktop support from its free Visual Studio Express programming suite. This caused quite the uproar in the forums and clearly pushed the buttons of quite a few of our readers.

It appears, however, that the HEXUS community wasn't alone and, the noise generated across the internet over the matter has led Microsoft to backtrack on its decision, ensuring that when Visual Studio Express 2012 launches this winter, desktop support will be present in the feature list, for both C++, C# and Visual Basic programming languages.

Aside from the latest compilers, Express Edition 2012 will also feature integrated unit testing and the ability for small development teams to collaborate via Team Explorer or TFS Express.

No apology as such, though clearly Microsoft has listened and seen the error of its ways, fully reversing its decision. Now about Metro Microsoft...

Now they just need to passively apologise on railroading metro over Windows 8 as a whole. ;)

and aero…
That's pretty awesome tbh, who in the tech world ever listens to their customers?!
I think that shows MS is actually listening. They're just going about marketing their products badly.

I mean, when was the last time that MS showed a good commercial for their products? They do some damned awesome stuff (SSAS, SSRS, Win 7, WMP IMO) but absolutely SUCK at advertising it to the masses. Instead it's your local consultant (@Ā£300+ per day) who tells you about their products. Their web site is an absolute mine field of information, so I'm not surprised that they (Expletive deleted) the consumers and freelance trade off with decisions like this (or what this was supposed to be) - they don't actually work with their users….
I think the entire development process of Visual Studio 2012 has shown how completely out of touch Microsoft are with their own customers.

First they tried to rid Visual Studio 2011's GUI of every colour of the rainbow , and then they thought it'd be a great idea to ditch desktop support for Express users .

Who have Microsoft put in charge of this product?! I thought product releases were supposed to be iterative, and built upon solid concepts that have worked well in the past?
