When asked which one feature I'd like to have on my Windows-based notebook, I tend to always give the same answer; instant-on access to the desktop.

No surprise, then, that I jumped at the chance to see one of the world's fastest booting Windows 7 systems at the SanDisk booth here at Computex 2010.

The system on show's a HP Envy notebook, equipped with a SanDisk G3 SSD and Insyde Software's Blink Boot technology. Created as a joint collaboration between Microsoft, Insyde and SanDisk, it's designed to boot to the Windows 7 desktop in around 15 seconds.

According to Insyde, the combination of its custom UEFI BIOS and SanDisk's SSD enables on average a reduction of more than 30 per cent in the BIOS post time and over 60 per cent in Windows 7 load times.

Sounds rather useful, and it could be a sign of things to come for Windows-based machines. It's still some way from instant-on, but it's a step in the right direction. You can see the technology in action in the clip embedded below.

Like to see it do that from a cold boot.

It would be nice to see it get back to the desktop as quickly as it does from a Sleep state.
That was unimpressive! Need one from a cold boot!
The big story is reducing BIOS lag - it's the majority of my boot time since I moved to SSD.
