Western Digital has today introduced two new additions to its line of My Book external store solutions in the form of the My Book Essential (pictured right) and My Book for Mac.
The external desktop hard drives are available in capacities ranging from 500GB to 2TB, enclosed in a new smaller frame measuring 165mm x 135mm x 48mm. Both drives connect via a USB 2.0 interface, and there's both 256-bit hardware encryption and password protection for those with sensitive data.
As with existing drives, there's an illuminated capacity gauge to illustrate available space and Western Digital's GreenPower technology promises to consume up to 30 per cent less energy by entering a sleep mode when idle.
Automatic backups are made possible by Western Digital's SmartWare Software, and the HFS Plus-formatted MyBook for Mac is plug-and-play compatible with Apple TimeMachine. Prices start at Ā£74.99 for the entry-level 500GB My Book Essential.
