Enermax teased us at Computex with the prototype 87++ PSU. First up, a quick bit of background: the 87+ range of PSUs feature modular connectors and a power efficiency of 87-91%. Good going indeed.

The 87++, as one might naturally deduce, goes beyond that by providing 92% efficiency, Enermax claims, thus taking it to a level that far exceeds current PSU efficiency ratings. That's awfully efficient, so we must wonder what tricks they've used to produce a unit that can waste so little energy. We might in fact be left wondering forever, as we understand it's not yet decided whether the PSU will make it into production.

Still, here's a pic of the PSU, with one hell of a shiny gold fan - maybe that's the secret power-saving sauce?

Why have Enermax gone all JPS (John Player Special) all of a sudden? Perhaps they're planning to package them in Christmas crackers. The gold fan devalues them by at least £30 IMO.

Oh dear.

I can understand people who buy cases based on aesthetics.

I think those who bought keyboards based on their looks are completely mad.

This though… wow. Just wow.
The gold fan does indeed look rather crap.

Still, cant fault Enermax PSUs in my experience.
Tacky, real tacky :(
It's a prototype. Why do you care what colour the fan is?
