EnGenius to Launch 5GHz Wi-Fi
Products at
Sub-£300 Mark
Last-mile solution that breaks the price barrier
Hull, United Kingdom – 16 April 2007 – EnGenius Networks, a wholly owned subsidiary of Senao International and manufacturer of high performance wireless networking solutions, has today announced the imminent launch of their NOC-8610 range of 5GHz last mile bridging solutions at the sub-£300 mark.
Whilst 5GHz wireless kit continues to be expensive in the UK with very little client choice available, EnGenius' NOC-8610 range will encourage the uptake of outdoor wireless Ethernet products that use the 5GHz frequency range, enabling businesses to experience the real benefits 5GHz networking can deliver.
The varying and confusing rules for using the 5GHz spectrum across different countries has contributed to the lack of available products, as vendors must ship 802.11a-compliant Wi-Fi products to different places with different capabilities turned on and off.

There are three 5GHz frequency ranges permitted for wireless networking use in the UK:
Band A (5150-5350MHz), Licence
free use
Band B (5470-5725MHz), Licence free use
Band C (5725-5850MHz), Licence required for operation
Band B (5470-5725MHz), Licence free use
Band C (5725-5850MHz), Licence required for operation
An outdoor bridging solution, the NOC-8610EXT has been specially designed to meet the UK-only requirement for all products used in Band C to be IR2007 compliant.
The NOC-8610PLUS is an 802.11a/b/g access point, which has a 5GHz 16dbi panel antenna built in and a Reverse SMA socket for 2.4GHz for flexible deployment options. A pair of NOC-8610PLUS products required to provide building-to-building connectivity will be under £600 – a mere quarter of the price of other solutions currently available.
The NOC-8610EXT offers all this functionality but you have the choice of attaching your own antenna to suit, the NOC-8610EXT has a Reverse SMA socket for 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

An internal solution, the ECB-8610, rated to run at up to 54M bit/sec in the unlicensed 5GHz band or in the dual band 2.4/5 GHz frequency spectrum supporting the 802.11b (2.4GHz, 11Mbps) and the, faster 802.11g (2.4GHz, 54Mbps)/ 802.11a (5GHz, 54Mbps) wireless standards.
Protecting your wireless network, both products can encrypt all wireless transmissions through 64/128-bit WEP data encryption and also support WPA2/WPA/802.1x for powerful security authentication.
"IR2007 Compliant kit has been really expensive in the UK, up until now," comments Steve Mace from Solwise.co.uk. "We approached EnGenius in October 2006 as we knew they could deliver a high quality product at low cost price. Any product that can provide IR2007 compliant products for legal 5GHz bridging is bound to be welcomed."
The products will be available mid April from http://www.solwise.co.uk
