ECS Show off Radeon Xpress 3200 with SB600
In what seems to be the first public outing of ATI's oft talked about, but little seen SB600 southbridge, ECS are displaying an RD580-based mainboard using Socket AM2 that uses the chip, rather than an alternative. With Socket AM2 not set to launch until Computex, the board won't be around until then - and indeed it doesn't seem like there's a Socket 939 version planned - but ECS confirm that they are working with the ASIC ready for the board's shipping revision being launched just before Computex, to fill their sales channels with the product ready for sale.
It supports master-less Crossfire, and it's one we'll get our hands on as soon as we can. SB600 is the replacement for ATI's current southbridge products, and is said to offer the improved performance needed to give the bridge a good start when it enters full life, based on the relatively poor showing of SB450 and SB460.
The bridge supports SATA2, lots of USB2.0, HD Audio and all the other goodies expected of a modern I/O ASIC used in mainboard products.
