Thus far we've only seen ATI Crossfire capable mainboards with ATI chipsets, but now ECS ELITEGROUP has announced the PF22, a Intel 955X-based board which is capable of running ATI's new multi-GPU technology.
Given the chipset in use, it will be no surprise when we tell you the PF22 supports Intel's LGA775 processors with dual-core technology. The ICH7R southbridge provides four SATA 3Gbps ports and Intel's Matrix Storage technology, with two more Silicon Image-powered 3Gbps SATA ports thrown in for good measure.
Sound is provided by a high definition Realtek ALC880, and the board has dual gigabit Ethernet controllers, one Intel, one Realtek.
Now that ECS has set the ball rolling with a Crossfire supported board without an ATI chipset, perhaps we'll get to see if there's any difference in Crossfire performance between ATI and Intel chipsets. ECS has issued a press release.
