More about the apps
The most complex of the programs with this version of Sugar - it seems to us - is Etoys but we haven't had the chance to spend enough time with it to get our heads even a quarter-way round it.
About the only tip we can give is that - like AbiWord but unlike the other supplied apps - right-click context-sensitive menus play a big part in what you do and the selections you can make.

Web browser default home page. Clicking on the active app's
own icon, which appears on the top toolbar, lets
you choose to close it or switch to the neighbourhood view
Another tip worth knowing is that - in the absence of right-click options in the web browser - Ctrl-C and Ctl-V do work for copy and pasting.
Browsing Google Mail on line
Memosono pairs-matching game. This is accompanied by
sounds, apparently, but in the implentation of Sugar we
were running within VMware Player, there was no sound
Penguin TV podcast browser
AbiWord word processor - saving file. A lot of the depth of the app
is concealed until you start right-clicking and discover context menus
TamTam. This is an exploration app for music and sound but, not
having any sound, we didn't twig until we checked out the OLPC Wiki
We reckon that the OLPC's OS and apps are coming along nicely and can only hope that the target price of US$100 for the complete laptop still remains feasible.
