Toshiba is pushing the envelope with its Qosmio F750 3D, the first laptop in production to offer glasses-free 3D. As well as showing three-dimensional images without needing glasses, the F750 3D is also able to show 3D and 2D images simultaneously, on its screen.

The 15.6in screen features a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, to ensure smooth images. The F750 3D's display has a sends separate images to the left and right eye to achieve its 3D affect, and uses the built-in webcam to track eye movement to adjust the left and right pictures to in line with head movement. As a result the 3D image is only optimised for a single viewer, but on a laptop that's much less of an issue that it would be on a television set.

Augmenting its 3D-capable display, the Qosmio F750 3D comes with 2D-to-3D conversion software, which will convert ordinary movie content into 3D. Although given how poor retrofitted 3D movies look when the conversion is performed at film studios we wouldn't expect this to look work amazingly well. More usefully, the laptop has a Blu-ray drive, and can play 3D movies on a 3D TV via its HDMI port.

Aside from the 3D features, the F750 3D also offers a 2GHz Intel Core i7 CPU, 6GB of DDR3 RAM, a 640GB hard drive and 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics. A single USB 3.0 port, a trio of USB 2.0 ports, a multi-card reader and both Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi comprise a decent, if not outstanding range of connectivity options.

The Qosmio F750 3D will go on sale in August for around £1,300.
