While there are a fair few 3D laptops out there, the majority make use of bulkier - and more expensive - active shutter glasses. There is another route, though, and LG has embraced it fully with the launch of the new Xnote A510.

The 15.6in 1,920x1,080px LED-backlit screen is polarised, meaning that it will take care of doing all of the necessary hard work. This means that the laptop will ship with a pair of lightweight polarised-specs to complete the passive-3D experience, as well as a pair of clip-on lenses to wear over regular glasses.

To help bring even boring old 2D media to life, the manufacturer is bundling the laptop with TriDef software which can automatically convert media to 3D. Of course, 3D Blu-ray discs should also play normally on the notebook.

On the inside, the A510 will ship with a choice of mobile Intel CPUs up to the 1.86GHz quad-core Core i7 840QM - though it doesn't look like the company's newly launched processors will be available. This has been paired up with a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M, providing more than enough power for the sorts of media-duties that this laptop is designed for.

Rounding out the spec sheet are a Blu-ray reader, support for HDMI 1.4 and an integrated finger-print reader.

The A510 seems to be a worthy alternative to the Xnote R590 that shipped earlier this year, though we're still disappointed by the lack of Optimus graphics-switching technology. Regardless, if you're looking for an alternate route for 3D on the go, LGs latest laptop should be shipping in champagne gold and two-tone black and blue in Asia, South America, the Middle East and Africa sometime in October.
