There isn't exactly a shortage of netbooks out there, but Averatec - now owned by South Korean manufacturer TG Sambo - has found itself something of a niche with its new N1200-series range.
Dubbed the world's thinnest, lightest 10.1in netbook, the N1200-series measures less than 22.9mm thick and weighs just under a kilogram.
The system features a 10.1in LED display with a basic 1,024x600 resolution, and comes powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, integrated Intel GMA 3150 graphics and 1GB of DDR2 memory. That's joined by a 160GB hard-disk drive, Wireless N connectivity, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and a lacklustre three-hour battery.
It isn't going to win many beauty contests, but it is well priced. The system equipped with Microsoft's Windows XP operating system will fetch $329.99 at US retail, whilst a model with Windows 7 Starter edition will raise the asking price to $349.99.
Worried about the battery life? Fear not, a slightly thicker and heavier model - equipped with a six-hour battery, 250GB of storage and added Bluetooth capability - tops the range priced at $379.99.
There's no word on European availability, but US consumers will find the Averatec N1200-series netbooks appearing at BestBuy, TigerDirect and OfficeMax later this month.
