When Gateway revealed its LT-series line of netbooks, we were intrigued by the Californian manufacturer's decision to opt for an AMD-powered system as opposed to the ubiquitous Intel Atom offerings.
However, as interesting as the LT3103u was, Gateway's following up with the largely unexciting and notably formulaic LT2000 line.
The new addition, available in Night Sky Black (model number LT2001u) or Cherry Red (model number LT2021u), is every bit the familiar Intel Atom-powered machine we've become accustomed to.
No prizes for guessing what's inside. Yep, you got it, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, Intel's 945GSE chipset, 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB hard drive and all the usual finishing touches - namely a built-in webcam, wireless connectivity, a multi-card reader and a couple of USB ports.
Whilst last month's LT3103u arrived with an inviting HD-ready 11.6in screen, the LT2000 line reverts back to a tried-and-accepted 10.1in LCD providing a limited resolution of 1,024x600.
Not by any means riveting, but Gateway's pricing isn't too bad. We're told the black LT2001u and red LT2021u will be hitting retail at any moment with a price tag of $299, making it $100 cheaper than the more potent AMD-based alternative.
