Only a few months ago we were congratulating the HEXUS folding@home team for posting a sensational score for November. But it looks like that wasn't a one off, and the team's continued to go from strength to strength as it approaches the amazing 100 million point milestone.

In the last two months alone, the team has jumped from 141st place up to 129th by maintaining - and even exceeding - their stellar performance from November. This means that our intrepid folders are bearing down hard on teams from Penny Arcade and MajorGeeks, and could overtake them in a matter of weeks.

Breaking the 100 million point barrier is a huge landmark, and not just for this team. Only 122 out of the 194,801 total teams have made it past that milestone, meaning that it would put HEXUS firmly in the upper echelons of the folding community.

The countdown in the .community predicts that team HEXUS will reach the 100 million point mark in about a month, but the goal is to hit it before the end of February. Being a short month, that means the folders might need a bit of help, so if you feel like lending your computing cycles for a good cause, head on over to the folding@home section of the HEXUS.community for more details. For beginners, there's some basic info on the F@H project in this news post from a few years ago.

In the mean time, everyone at HEXUS would like say congratulations and a big thank you to the folding team for giving your computers for a good cause! Keep up the great work everyone!

Thanks to Mike for the heads up.

Keep up the folding guys, we can so do this!
Fold on!

If anyone needs any help setting up (should you decide to help) or general questions, don't hesitate to ask, we're a friendly (but, of course, quite geeky) bunch :)
That's quite impressive. I stopped folding long ago due to problems constantly arising. I just don't have the time to sit around and fix a program I am using voluntarily. Updates to the program also ground to a halt at the time…

Anyway I've found something much better, where you can choose what you contribute to. You are not locked in to the medical industry.

It's called BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing). I'm using it to support AQUA@home and MilkyWay@home.

Hexus should consider creating a team for BOINC projects as well. Quite a lot easier to use and has more features like automatically stopping work while you are using the PC with timer settings(I use 5 minute idle time).

I must say they've made great improvements with the bugs and whatnot so it's now very easy to install - I used to have great issues with the SMP (multi-core) client but that's got a lot better and simpler in recent updates.
I found DDY's instructions (salvaged from page 2 of folding chit-chat) very easy to use to set up the client:
Quick step by step guide to set up SMP:

1) Download SMP client here
2) Unzip in to folder with write permissions, e.g. C:/Users/David/FAH
3) Right click on the Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe and select create shortcut
4) Right click new shortcut and click properties
5) In the target box, type “-configonly” right at the end without quotes, click ok
6) Launch shortcut
7) Enter info as normal, answer yes to change advanced options
8) Keep hitting enter (unless you want to change other settings) until you get to “Additonal client parameters”, here enter “-smp” without quotes
9) Keep hitting enter and the window would eventually disappear
10) Delete shortcut
11) Run Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe

Thought it might save people trawling through the 50 page thread…
