PowerColor is upping the stakes in the Radeon HD 4890 market by launching the pre-overclocked PCS+ HD 4890 card.

You can read all about the Radeon HD 4890 here, suffice to say that the XT model ships at frequencies of 850MHz core and 3,900MHz memory. The OC variant, on the other hand, is specified at 900MHz core and 3,900MHz memory - both with 1GB of on-board memory.

The PCS+ HD 4890 straps a custom cooler from ZEROtherm for better-than-reference cooling:

Clocked in at 950MHz core and 4,400MHz memory the extra clock-speed is significant. PowerColor asserts that the ZEROtherm's fan-speed can be user-defined, which is cool, and the card beats the reference edition in practically every respect.

PowerColor will also release a limited-edition Battle Forge SKU, bundled with the DX10.1-compatible game but identical in all other respects.

The Radeon HD 4890 market is already congested, but the arrival of a well-overclocked PowerColor model, should it come in at, say, £220, would ruffle some feathers.
