Back in early May, HEXUS reported on the first update delivered to AMD Raven Ridge APU owners since the launch of the processors in February this year. The problem for owners of these APUs was that there had been multiple Radeon Software Adrenalin driver releases for users of discrete AMD GPUs, but the APUs had received none. It was both puzzling and perturbing that the level of support seemed to be different. However, the news was, at that time, that AMD was going to integrate the Raven Ridge updates into the main discrete driver branch from then on in.
Ahead of the weekend there has been another update on the above situation. Again it is from an AMD employee on an enthusiast forum. However, this time the news isn't so good for the Raven Ridge fraternity. In a nutshell, AMD Raven Ridge GPU driver updates will come at quarterly intervals, according to AMDMatt, chatting on the Overclockers UK forums.
In answer to another forum user's questions, "How come there is no raven ridge support with the last two drivers? I thought they were now unified release?" AMDMatt replied "APU drivers are updated every 3 months as WHQL releases only." Several forum users expressed their disappointment in the scheduling but there was no further comment on the AMD employee on the matter.
In related news, we reported on Friday, Intel updated its Kaby Lake G Radeon RX Vega M driver to become based upon the AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 18.6.1 driver. It now even shares the same version number, rather than one of Intel's even longer, harder to remember, digital splurges.
