For Immediate Release
VIA Fire IIM VT6307 Brings 1394 Connectivity to Smaller
Form Factors
The compact, low power VIA Fire IIM VT6307 is ideal for
enabling IEEE 1394 PCI connections in the next generation of connected devices
and consumer electronics.
Taipei, Taiwan, 28 May 2002 - VIA Technologies, Inc., a
leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform
solutions, today launched the VIA Fire IIM VT6307, a high performance IEEE 1394
host controller demonstrating lower power consumption for the mobile and small
form factor markets.
The IEEE 1394 high-speed serial bus (known as 'Firewire(tm)')
is a leading PCI peer-to-peer interconnect system and is widely acclaimed as the
primary interface for digital audio and video applications. The IEEE 1394a
specification enables hot-pluggable high volume connections to PC peripherals
such as printers and hard disk drives, multimedia appliances, and consumer
electronics devices such as game consoles and video cameras.
With two ports supporting up to 400Mbps of data
transfer, the VIA Fire IIM VT6307 Host Controller is the latest addition to
VIA's growing USB and IEEE 1394 stable of Communication products. Supporting the
latest IEEE 1394 specifications, the VIA VT6307 enables full support for
extended 1394 features, and advanced logic for ultra reliable connections. The
VIA VT6307 provides CardBus support, and a 32-bit PCI bus-interface with
advanced power management. With built in support within recent Microsoft®
Windows® operating systems, the VIA VT6307 ensures PCI plug-and-play operation
for maximum ease of installation and use.
"The VIA Fire IIM VT6307 confirms VIA's commitment to
the 1394 standard" commented Paul Hsu, Executive Assistant to the President, VIA
Technologies, Inc "With the power of two 400Mbps ports and an ultra small
package size the VIA VT6307 is ideal for small form factor and mobile devices
such as notebooks or webpads, adding another building block to VIA's 'Total
Connectivity' strategy."
VIA VT6307 Host Controller
The VIA VT6307 is a single chip Host Controller that is
compliant with the IEEE 1394-1995 Release 1.0, and IEEE 1394a P2000
specifications with full 1394a P2000 support. Two 1394a ports enable connections
at 100, 200, and 400 Mbps, with chip logic performing bus initialization and
arbitration functions. Supporting a 32-bit power-managed PCI bus interface the
VIA VT6307 is compliant with the PCI V2.2 specification, and supports cardbus
interfaces. For easy integration by OEMs the VIA VT6307 comes equipped with an
OHCI compliant programming interface, and supports I2C EEPROMs or 4-wire serial
ROMs. The VIA VT6307 is powered by a 3.3V supply with 5V tolerant inputs.
VIA VT6307 Pricing and Availability
The VIA VT6307 is available in a 14x20 PQFP, 14x20 LQFP,
and 14x14 LQFP package and manufactured with a TSMC 0.30 micron process. Pricing
