AMD ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR THE LATEST UPDATE TO THE
WINDOWS CE .NET OPERATING SYSTEM FOR EMBEDDED PROCESSORS

New functionality provides enriched user experience when
combined with low power, high performance Alchemy(tm) Au1 core processors from
AMD

SUNNYVALE, CA-July 30, 2002-AMD (NYSE: AMD) today
announced its support of the latest update to the Microsoft Windows CE .NET
operating system, Windows CE .NET version 4.1. Windows CE .NET is an excellent
platform to capitalize on the performance, versatility and dependability of the
MIPSĀ® technology-based Au1 core processors from AMD.

The Alchemy Au1000(tm), Au1100(tm), and Au1500(tm)
processors from AMD provide outstanding combinations of high performance and low
power consumption. These System-on-a-Chip (SOC) processors are well suited for
non-PC Internet appliances, such as web pads, PDAs, as well as gateways such as
routers and line cards.

"Windows CE .NET offers an incredibly reliable core
operating system for efficiently enabling demanding real-time embedded designs
across a breadth of hardware," said Dr. William Edwards, vice president and
general manager of AMD's Personal Connectivity Solutions Group. "When used with
high performance, low power Alchemy Au1 core processors from AMD, customers can
expect a stellar processing solution."

Designers developing products with Alchemy Au1 core
processors from AMD will be able to take advantage of several new features of
Windows CE .NET that meet key customer needs.

"In the highly competitive device market, our OEM
customers need a reliable and powerful microprocessor for use in their Windows
Powered devices," said Keith White, senior director of marketing for the
Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft Corp. "AMD's Alchemy family
of processors will enable OEMs to create powerful and feature-rich devices based
on Windows CE .NET and bring devices to market quickly and cost-effectively."
