PCMark 10 benchmark shows performance improvement

In mid-January, Microsoft released a new version of Microsoft Edge that is based on the Chromium open-source project. In our own testing with the PCMark 10 Applications benchmark, we found that the new Microsoft Edge offers at least 10% more performance on average compared with the old Edge.

Test PC performance for Microsoft Office apps with PCMark 10

The PCMark 10 Applications benchmark measures real-world PC performance with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Edge. The Microsoft Edge test models common web browsing activities such as social media, online shopping, viewing maps, watching video, and browsing web pages. 

You can use the PCMark 10 Applications benchmark to test the performance of the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge. In our own testing, we found that the new version offers at least 10% more performance on average in the Microsoft Edge part of the PCMark 10 Applications benchmark.

What's new in PCMark 10 v2.1.2165

This is a minor update. Benchmark scores are not affected. The PCMark 10 Applications benchmark is only available in PCMark 10 Professional Edition.

  • The PCMark 10 Applications benchmark is now compatible with the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser.
  • Improved compatibility with the Windows 10 Background Activity Moderator service to avoid PCMark 10 tests being classed as background processes.
