PRESS RELEASE
Open standard will finally help cut the cord between devices
Taipei, Taiwan, 14 August, 2012 - WonderMedia Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator of energy-efficient, feature-rich system-on-chip platforms, today announced that the WonderMedia PRIZM WM8950 SoC platform will support the upcoming Wi-Fi CERTIFIED MiracastTM standard, Miracast, from the Wi-Fi Alliance®. The Miracast capability will be integrated seamlessly into the WonderMedia SmartStream technology for supporting DMR and wireless display functionalities over standard-compliant and legacy, WiFi-Direct and WiFi devices, in both embedded and Android environments.
Miracast certified devices will be able to deliver audio and video content from one device to another through a Wi-Fi connection, eliminating the need for cables. These devices will be able to connect directly, without the need of a wireless access point, making it possible to watch videos from a tablet on a big screen television or share a smartphone screen with the conference room projector. Televisions, set-top boxes, notebooks, tablets and handsets are among the types of devices which will be certified.
"We are moving toward the reality of a completely untethered digital world," said Tzumu Lin, President and CEO, WonderMedia Technologies, Inc. "By adding support for the Miracast standard, the WM8950 will be the most capable platform on the market to enjoy wireless streaming."
