ELSA launches AirLancer USB-11 adapter for
wireless LAN



THEALE, 12 June 2001- Networking vendor ELSA has added a USB

(universal serial bus) adapter to its 11mbs LANCOM Wireless LAN range. With

a built-in antenna, the ELSA AirLancer USB-11 provides fast, convenient

connectivity for workstations on an IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN and

complements the existing PC card (PCMCIA) and PCI based wireless LAN

interface cards. The ELSA AirLancer USB-11 conforms to the new WEP 128

security standard and is interoperable with other WiFi compliant IEEE

802.11b systems.



With the ELSA AirLancer USB-11, workstations can access the

office server via ELSA LANCOM Wireless access points or exchange files with

other users on a peer-to-peer basis.



ELSA's product manager for networking, Peter Huddleston

commented, "USB is a good choice for mobile workers who want quick

connectivity to the LAN when they visit the office or for IT managers who

want to free up PCI slots in desk top workstations. USB is flexible because

you can hot swap between users and simple to install, because it needs no

additional power supply."



ELSA Wireless solutions use the IEEE 802.11b 11mbs standard

to provide performance similar to conventional cabled network. With a range

up to 30 metres in offices with walls or other obstacles and up to 400

metres in an open plan environment, wireless LANs offer a practical cost

effective way to extend an existing LAN or to provide networking in a

building that would be difficult or costly to cable.

The ELSA AirLancer USB-11 costs £179.99 and has a 2-year

warranty.
