WESTWOOD, Mass., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LoJack Corporation (Nasdaq: LOJN - News) announced today that it had entered into an agreement with Plextek Limited (UK) communications technology consultants, to design the next generation LoJack System, the radio frequency (RF) transceiver installed in vehicles to provide law enforcement with the ability to track and recover LoJack equipped stolen vehicles.
The new design is based on an operating platform that will be scalable and flexible, supporting Global Positioning System (GPS) and cellular technology that, in the future, would allow the company to develop new products that combine GPS and/or cellular based communications with LoJack's time tested RF based stolen vehicle recovery technology. In addition, the new design will result in reduced manufacturing and installation costs, and a reduction of the size of the LoJack System, permitting installation in more covert locations in the consumer's vehicle than at present.

An important feature of the new design will be a common platform for both domestic and international operations which will allow the same LoJack System to operate on the varying radio frequencies used in the many countries where LoJack technology is utilized for stolen vehicle recovery. This common platform will also provide the company with manufacturing and distribution efficiencies, and facilitate global cross border tracking and recovery.

In making the announcement, Ronald J. Rossi, chairman, said, "We have entered into this agreement as part of our commitment to deliver the most effective and most advanced vehicle security solutions and location based services. This investment in the new LoJack System is expected to result in cost savings in both manufacturing and installation that will positively affect our profitability in 2005 and future years."

Colin Smithers, managing director of Plextek, said, "Having worked with LoJack on several projects over the past decade, we are delighted to have been selected to work with them on their core product. LoJack has always been a leader in stolen vehicle recovery and we look forward to helping them take their technology to the next level."

LoJack Corporation, the premier worldwide marketer of wireless security and location products and services, is the undisputed leader in global stolen vehicle recovery. Its stolen vehicle recovery system, the only system of its kind delivering a better than 90 percent success rate, is uniquely integrated into law enforcement agencies in the United States that use LoJack's in-vehicle tracking equipment to recover stolen vehicles. The LoJack System operates coast-to-coast in 21 states and the District of Columbia, representing areas of the country with the greatest population density, and highest number of new vehicle sales and incidence of vehicle theft. In addition, LoJack technology is utilized by law enforcement and security organizations in more than 26 countries throughout Europe, Africa and Latin America.
