MARKHAM, Ontario/ Munich, Germany - September 8, 2003 - Top consumer electronics manufacturers, including Sony Consumer Electronics, Epson, and Scientific-Atlanta are turning to digital television (DTV) technology from ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT). ATI has delivered XILLEON(tm) solutions that enable consumer electronics manufacturers to create a wide range of products from high-definition televisions to advanced display projectors and high-definition set-top boxes.

Shipping products include:

Sony's wide screen high-definition televisions (models KDP-51WS550, KDP-57WS550 and KDP-65WS550) are the first to be released anywhere capable of decoding two HD signals for visually dynamic HD picture-in-picture capability. These models also include DVI-HDTV, i.LINK, and Memory Stick for displaying images from digital cameras.
Epson's PowerLite 735c Multimedia Projector combines wireless connectivity with portability and power to project crisp, high-quality images.
Scientific-Atlanta's Explorer cable set-top boxes (models 3250HD and 4200HD) merge high-definition video capability and broadband digital video services to deliver a broad range of entertainment, information, and communications services.

These consumer electronics devices are all powered by ATI's new XILLEON(tm) 225, a second-generation highly integrated system on a chip that is now in volume production.

"The fact that market leaders such as Sony, Scientific Atlanta, and Epson have chosen to work with ATI for this critical component, helps validate the ATI XILLEON architecture as the premier choice for manufacturers of digital televisions, set-top boxes, and projectors," said Daniel Eiref, Director of DTV Marketing and Business Development, ATI Technologies Inc. "Based on our strong relationship with each of these companies, ATI expects that future models will also incorporate ATI technology."

XILLEON 225 integrates into a single chip all the processing, graphics, video, audio, and I/O (input and output) capabilities needed in a set-top box or digital TV. Included are a 300MHz MIPS® CPU (central processing unit), dual-HD (high definition) capable MPEG decoder, audio decoder, dual display engine, 2D and 3D graphics engine, conditional access, transport demultiplexers, PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect), USB (universal serial bus), and hard disk drive interfaces.
