Gitex 2006 - The most irritating freebie EVER?
You know, if there is one thing that irritates any hack at tech shows it’s attendees with one of the seven deadly sins, namely merchandise gluttony. These people seem to only attend shows for the prime purpose of fleecing companies of as much merchandise as possible. No problem there, right? Well, there wouldn’t be if companies didn’t try to out-do each other all the time.
Now, CeBIT suffers from this purely from the point of view of the ticket-touts selling to the youths who have nothing to do with any IT trade. The problem with Gitex was, whilst it had the same rule as CeBIT, being trade-only for the most part, it was the trade people who were clamouring after the giveaways.
In fairness, there weren’t as many giveaways as CeBIT, but, folks, what I am about to show you is easily the most irritating giveaway we have ever come across. It’s so bad that we even blurred out the name of the company giving them away as we certainly don’t want to give them any more coverage than is absolutely necessary.
Ladies and gents, it’s a big paper box, on wheels, with a handle. Who in god's name thought that was a good idea? Just envisage at least 500 of these filling the isles whilst you’re trying to run round the show floor and you start to understand just why this sort of stuff really needs to be stopped.
