Though the tech-savvy readers of HEXUS.net know their gadgets inside and out, the same can't be said for the rest of Britain's consumers.

According to a survey conducted by Reevoo.com, millions of Brits admit that they're still completely baffled by many of today's latest gadgets.

The survey, in which 2,000 Brits participated, has revealed that one-in-five adults don't understand many of their mobile phone's features. Over a quarter of us haven't a clue how to use a digital camera properly, and 21 per cent find SatNav systems to be mind-boggling.

Age-old devices are also becoming increasingly complex. 18 per cent admitted to being baffled by today's washing machines, and microwaves and televisions are a cause for confusion, too.

The most telling statistic of all, is that 32 per cent of Brits admitted to throwing gadgets across a room when unable to figure them out. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that 38 per cent stated that they didn't bother to read the manual!

Manuals are so yesterday, in fact, that more than a quarter of people said they'd try to fix the gadget themselves, or buy a new one, before consulting the instructions.

The top ten baffling gadgets, according to the survey, are as follows:

  1. Digital camera
  2. GPS/SatNav
  3. Mobile phone
  4. Washing machine
  5. Camcorder
  6. DVD player
  7. Games Console
  8. TV remote control
  9. MP3 player
  10. Microwave

Gadgets are clearly becoming more feature-packed, but has the importance of being consumer friendly been lost? Have you ever thrown a frustrating gadget across a room? Let us know in the HEXUS.community forums.

Well I for one have never thrown a gadget across a room in frustration, and to be honest I don't understand how people cant use something like a DVD player, a gadget I feel is one of the simplest to use. DVD in, select what you want with the big arrow/select buttons and watch. Couldn't be much easier.
What frustrates me more are incompetent users who cant be bothered to read the manual.
I'd still like a future in which gadgets can be controlled telepathically though…
I'll plead guilty to not knowing much about mobile phone features ….. because I don't want to know. If I can get it to make calls, receive calls, store and retrieve numbers from memory, that's about all I want. Anything else is surplus to requirements.

As for the rest, they just require a bit of practice, and maybe a bit of RTM'ing when new. But throw one across the room? Not hardly.

i agree, gadgets are designed to be used, so people should just read the manual and work it out.
what's the worst that could happen?
