Electronic Arts have announced that they are forming a specialist studio that will concentrate solely on games for Wii. The former Headgate Studios, well known for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games, has been purchased by EA and will now be called EA Salt Lake.

"Having worked with EA for the past six years, we know their teams share work ethic, passion for creative excellence and commitment to quality," Vance Cook, founder of Headgate and now newly appointed Executive Producer of EA Salt Lake stated. "By joining EA, we are making official what we all already feel – that we are part of the EA family."

Although no games have been confirmed as being in development at the new studio, Headgate studios were also behind 'The Godfather' and 'Madden NFL 07', both of which are pencilled in to appear on Wii.

EA's current list of games for Wii include, Need for Speed Carbon and Call of Duty 3, but they are said to be working on a new style Sims game, as well as Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix and SSX.

The new founded 'family' will be looking to challenge Ubisoft who currently have more Wii launch titles than any other third party developer.

haha hmm, you know, its one of those things where it should be good news, you basically know its good news, but the fact it involves EA makes it seem less like good news.
Now correct me if I am wrong but didn't they dismiss Wii as old technology a little while ago…?

*…waits for opportunity to gloat…*

To be honest I don't really mind if they do or not as I haven't bought an EA game since BF2 and that has put me off and none of their recent stuff is original at all, they seem to be the ITV of the games world at moment, using old tired concepts and programmes. Though undoubtley the backing is nice to see.
Like most other people I dont like EA, they butcher games most of the time… However them out right supporting the Wii means more money pouring into it which can never be a bad thing for Nintendo.
