Wii's Virtual Console download service, similar to the Xbox Live Arcade, allows users to download games not only for Sega's Genesis/Mega Drive but also the NES, Super NES, and Nintendo 64 and NEC's TurboGrafx-16 systems. Dozens of games have already been confirmed, including Toe Jam & Earl, Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros, but how much will they cost?
Nintendo are using a points system and games will cost between £3.50 and £7. Wii points can be purchased online or bought from a number of game's stores on a pre-paid card. Nintendo are using the same clever ploy as Microsoft use with their points system. For £14 points you'll receive a massive 2000 points giving you the impression that you're getting an absolutely bargain. Why not just make £14 = 14 points?
The price of games will differ depending on the titles, for example, Legend of Zelda will cost 1000 points (£7) whereas Super Mario Bros will cost 500 points (£3.50).
Approximately 30 games will be released though the Virtual Console between the console's launch and the end of the calendar year, with 10 additional games being released every month after that for at least the next year.
