Photos that were taken of the contents of the Wii box, which will be heading to stores in time for the console's launch date on December 8th, reveal that a start-up disc will be included in the package.

Nintendo haven't confirmed the reason for the mysterious disc, but analysts have been furiously speculating on its use. Could it be a firmware update for Wii consoles that were manufactured over the summer? or maybe just the console's boot files? The most recent rumour suggests that the disc could contain a copy of the Opera browser which we'll have to manually install.

The final rumour seems highly unlikely considering Opera have already announced that the browser will be free until June 2007 and will need to be downloaded from the "Wii Shop Channel". Whatever it is, it seems to have caused plenty of excitement on Wii websites and forums around the world.

Incidently, the rest of the launch package will include Wii sports, a console stand, the remote, the nunchuck and all the cables you need to boot up and get playing.

Is it only me thats thinking Demo disc?

They have done it with every Playstation and do it with all graphics cars nowdays (or even full games there).
Makes sense tbh, if the console only has 512mb of built in flash, then a disc with some demos on would save a lot on download space.
could it be the games that come with the wiimote?
