More user-friendly
Google has announced some changes to the Android Market, with the primary aim of making it easier to discover apps.
This is the area in which the Android Market has been most criticized in comparisons with Apple's App store. So much so that there has been some speculation that Google may have little interest in paid apps gaining prominence since it makes money serving the advertising in free ones.
The changes take the form of five main features:
1. New charts, which detail the top new apps as well as top paid and free ones
2. Editor's choice apps selected by some Googler or other
3. A ‘Top Developer' designation to recognise the makers of the most popular apps
4. A more comprehensive selection of related apps within an app page
5. A ‘Trending Apps' section to let you know what's hot
These features are already available in the web store and will come to mobile apps soon. It will be interesting to see if the Android Market will now compare more favourably to the App Store.
