Whiter shade of pale
Apple is rumoured to ship its elusive white flavoured iPhone 4 by April and is believed to be about to start production of the fabled phone.
Of course there have been rumours of a white iPhone 4 for almost a year now and this time they herald form an analyst at Concord Securities.
Ming-Chi Kuo told AppleInsider that manufacturers will begin putting together the iPhone 4 in white and start dispatching them to Apple in time for an April launch.
He reportedly said that Apple has changed the "film material to solve the full-lamination problem that [was] the reason why white iPhones [were] delayed,"
While fanboys might be excited about a vanilla-flavoured iPhone, many people might decide to put off the purchase of a new iPhone as version 5 is rumoured to land this summer.
Despite rumours of the iPhone 5 launch being around the corner, Kuo apparently reckons the introduction of the white handset, CDMA iPhone and iOS 4.3 could see Apple shifting an eye-watering 18 million iPhones in Q1.
Rumours of the white iPhone 4 have stepped up again of late after Apple's co-founder Steve Wozniak said last month that the white flavour of the iPhone was ‘coming soon' after confirming the problems with the launch was down to the pale parts meddling with the camera's picture quality.
Since then, the white handset has been fleetingly spotted on Expansys' website priced at a staggering £919.99, although the page has since been changed to ‘not announced' so we assume it was a mistake.
However, with the unveiling of the iPad 2 it seems clear that Apple has sorted out its white paint woes as the tablet is available in black and white from its 11 March launch date.
Apple Insider has previously reported that Apple has developed a new material to make its white products after it reportedly used earlier painting methods to make a white iPhone 4, which was believed to have created heaps of defective handsets.
The story goes that Apple joined forces with a Japanese firm to create a new paint material which allows more control over how thickly the paint is applied.
It is well known that Apple has been forced to delay the launch of the white iPhone a number of times in 2010, leading to the device's near-mythical status. Apple reportedly announced in October last year that the white iPhone 4 would go on sale in Spring, 9 months late, so it will be interesting to see whether the rumours eventually prove true.
