Sony has issued the first sales figures since PlayStation Move launched, revealing that 2.5 million units have been shifted worldwide since September 15, 2010.

Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America revealed that the company has already “had to go back and increase production twice” claiming that manufacturing is “absolutely maxed out right now."

The sales figures equate to 1 million units sold in the U.S. and 1.5 million units in Europe.

The PlayStation Move controller works in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye camera, which tracks accurate 3D motion. Sony’s peripheral is set to go head to head with Microsoft over the busy Christmas period when Kinect launches in Europe on November 10, 2010.
