Data shake-up
Three has launched an ‘all -you-can-eat-data' plan for PAYG customers, in a move that could lure more consumers to smartphone offerings.
The network's One Plan, which offers unlimited data to its pay monthly customers has proved popular and there is now a PAYG equivalent.
Three is offering 2 bundles. The ‘All in One' offers 300 minutes, 3,000 texts and unlimited data for 30 days for £15, while there is a pricier £25 option with 500 minutes, 3,000 texts and unlimited data for the same time period.
Three's sales and marketing director, Marc Allera, said: "We want to get people using their smartphones in the way they were designed to be used, and that means data. More importantly, we want people to feel comfortable doing this without worrying about the cost. That's why the new offers include all-you-can-eat data along with a huge allowance of minutes and texts."
Three reckons the plan will also help people worried about running out of credit. It said a recent survey pointed out that people were unsure of how much data they need to do different things and consequently deliberately under-used their phones to prevent a hefty bill.
It will be interesting to note whether many PAYG devotees are tempted by the all-you-can-eat-data-plan and will pick a smartphone, as well as if people use it to bridge contracts and hold onto their smartphone for longer.
To coincide with the launch, Three is running a competition over the next month and prizes include a 30-day first class rail travel pass to Europe for two, smartphone plus all-you-can-eat-data plan for a year and a bunch for free calla and texts each month.
The competition will run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7 March to 4 April, with information available on Twitter at @threeUK.
