Case race and survey shocker
Apple will cease to hand out free cases for its iPhone 4, designed to remedy the phone's reception ‘problem' at the end of September, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The company introduced the case giveaway in July after users of the new handset complained about calls dropping out as the result of the phone's swish external antenna design.
Apple reportedly said: "We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought," but declined to elaborate. It has confirmed it will stick to its plan to cull the giveaway on 30 September.
Meanwhile a survey has found that people prize their iPods more than their family pets.
The iPod topped a ‘most prized possession' poll among Facebook users, trumping family pets and wedding rings. The survey was carried about by insurance firm Protect Your Bubble and questioned 500 social network users.
Just 1 percent of respondents regarded their wedding ring as their most prized possession, while dogs and cats lost out to Blackberrys, iPhones and laptops.
Stephen Ebbett, a spokesman for the firm, said: "Perhaps some of the results show more about the demographics and preferences of Facebook users, with wedding rings and cars so far down the scale, but the iPod definitely seems to still rule as the gadget of choice."
